The Great Search for the Platonic Solids

Task

"Remember your work here is the first challenge to enter the Mathematikoi Society!

To pass this first challenge, you must complete three tasks.  To complete these tasks, you have the option to work on your own or with a partner.  If you choose to work with a partner, you must be approved by communicating with me in class or through email: gensburg@acs.sparcc.org.

After you have explored some appropriate websites pertaining to the Platonic Solids, you will need to write a submission article to the society about your findings.  This article will need to address the following questions.

bullet  What are the Platonic Solids?
bullet  How many Platonic Solids are there?
bullet  Why is there a limit to the possible number of Platonic Solids?

Within this submission you must demonstrate a clear understanding of the topic under investigation.  You must support your answer with mathematical facts.

Along with the article, you will complete a worksheet that relates the number of faces, edges, and vertices of the Platonic Solids

Lastly you will create your very own set of Platonic Solids.  These will be used to decorate your section of the society’s secrete meeting place (our classroom).
